Royal Dutch/Shell Group's LNG terminal at Hazira
in Surat district of Gujarat is headed for commissioning on 21 April 2005.
The LNG carrier -- Gemmata -- containing the
first consignment of 1.3 lakh cu.m. of LNG is currently berthed at the jetty
since 17 April 2005, it is learnt.
The terminal will commence operations with a
capacity of 2.5 million tpa of LNG, translating to 10 mmsmcd of gas. The final
capacity of the terminal would be 5 million tpa. There are plans to expand the
capacity further to 10 million tpa.
Shell's Hazira LNG terminal would be India's
second such, the first being the 5 million tpa terminal of Petronet LNG at Dahej,
also in Gujarat.
