Shyam Metalics and Energy (SMEL) has commissioned production capacities at its manufacturing facility at Jamuria, West Bengal. This includes addition to captive power plant as well as sponge iron production capacity.
The capacity of the captive power plant will increase from 267 MW to 357 MW, enabling the metal producing company to source 80 percent of power internally and reap significant cost savings. The company sources nearly 75 percent of its power requirement from the captive plant.
In sponge iron production, commissioning the incremental capacity of 1,65,000 tpa will result in an enhanced total capacity of 2.7 million tpa, which will aid the supply as demand continues to improve.
The addition reflects a significant boost in capacity with the availability of reliable and low-cost power.
Maintaining its position as a leading producer of ferro alloys, and highly-valued in terms of pellet capacity, SMEL has a diversified product mix which enables it to offer intermediates and final products across the value chain in the steel industry.
