Union Steel Minister H D Kumaraswamy inaugurated a modern steel-making facility at SAIL’s Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) on 18 November, 2025, marking a key step in the region's socio-economic growth.
Minister Kumaraswamy launched the 'Caster-4 unit' at the Steel Melting Shop-2, furthering the plant’s capabilities. The expansion is part of SAIL’s broader plans to increase RSP’s capacity to nine million tonne per annum (MTPA), more than doubling its current output. With a projected investment of Rs 30,000 crore, the expansion aims to enhance supplies to key sectors like defence, oil and gas, and automobiles.
Accompanied by Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram, Kumaraswamy assured continued support from the Government of India for the growth of RSP.
