Sistema.bio, a Mexico city-headquartered enterprise specializing in new-generation biogas technology has launched the world’s largest manufacturing facility for biogas plants at Chakan in Pune.
The company plans to install 40,000 biogas units in FY23 in India and intends to double it the next year. Sistema has invested Rs 15 crore in the plant and capacity improvement will be undertaken through automation. Apart from the domestic requirements, there are plans for exporting to Asia Pacific and Africa.
The India facility has an annual production capacity of 1,00,000 pre-fabricated biogas plants, wherein bio-digesters have turned out to be easier to install, more economical and long-lasting compared to the civil construction-based biogas plants. Moreover, the magnitude makes it suitable for the needs of small farmers, as well as large dairies and food companies.
The gas powers a two-burner cooking stove and generates fertilizers, with the capacity to replace 70-80 percent of chemical fertilisers. For installations done by private dairies and cooperatives, the gas is used to generate electricity.
Through various tie-ups, it has till date installed 50,000 units in 21 states in India. Sistema.bio is among the three biogas companies to receive approval from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) to participate in the National Bioenergy program, which has received an allocation of Rs 100 crore, and extends subsidies to private companies for installing biogas plants based on new technologies.
