The state government of Telangana has decided to revive the Sriram Sagar Project (SRSP) by diverting water from the Kaleswaram Lift Irrigation project.
The Chief Minister, K Chandrasekhar Rao will launch the work on 10 August, 2017.
The project, with a total inflow of 208 TMC, was proposed to provide irrigation facility for 13 lakh ha. But due to siltation, the present capacity of SRSP has come down to about 80 TMC.
The SRSP will be supplemented with water from Kaleswaram for stabilisation of 9.73 lakh acre of ayacut upto 115 km of the project. It is proposed to lift one TMC water for about 60 days through Flood Flow Canal (FFC) by providing three small lifts with 33 mtr of head.
The state government has estimated Rs 1,067 crore expenditure to lift one TMC water per day and 40 acre to construct three lifts at different locations below the Kaleswaram project.
The irrigation department is planning to provide water to the tail-end land, including Bhupalapalli, Dornakal, Kakatiya canal, Sarawati canal, Laxmi canal, Ali Sagar, Gutpa and Chowtupalli Hanumanthareddy lift schemes.
The redesign will also help SRSP to get more water through reverse pumping of Godavari waters.
