The Maharashtra government has approved a comprehensive development plan for the Backbay Reclamation area, allowing for the reclamation of previously unutilised land.
The plan includes a dedicated marina for small boats and yachts, a new water transport terminal near the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA), a helipad, and the extension of the new legislature building. The area will also see the construction of a new police station and other municipal facilities. The project will be implemented after one month, with modifications made to the original plan, such as widening Free Press Road and changing the designation of a plot near Damani House.
A new road will connect key city areas, aiming to enhance tourism and infrastructure. As one senior official noted, the plan is designed to boost the city's development while integrating modern facilities like the marina to attract tourism.
