The Maharashtra government on 28 August, 2025 approved land acquisition for the proposed 802 km Shaktipeeth Expressway, which will connect Tuljapur, Kolhapur and Mahur while traversing 12 districts, 39 tehsils and 370 villages across the state.
The Rs 20,787 crore allocation includes Rs 12,000 crore as principal and Rs 8,787 crore as interest, covering land acquisition from Pavanar to Sangli. The highway is expected to reduce travel time from Nagpur to Goa from 18 hours to just eight hours.
The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has been tasked with evaluating alignment options in Kolhapur’s Shirol, Karveer, Hatkanangale, Kagal, Bhudargad and Ajra talukas, as per a GR issued by State Additional Secretary Rajesh Bhogale.
