Orissa's high-level project clearance authority,
chaired by the Chief Minister, cleared two steel projects and one titanium
complex project, on 28 September 2005.
The steel projects cleared are those of Rungta
Mines that has planned to set up a 2 million tpa steel plant in the Sundargarh
and Dhenkanal districts and Bhushan Steel & Strips that has proposed a 3.1
million tpa steel plant in Dhenkanal district. The aggregate investment of the
two projects is an estimated Rs.15,000 crore.
The authority also cleared a Rs.1,003 crore
titanium complex to be set up by Titanium Mineral Products in Ganjam district.
In another development, the clearance authority
also permitted enhancement of capacity from 2 million tpa to 6 million tpa of a
steel plant proposed by Jindal Steel & Power. The MoU for the project
(pre-revision) has already been signed.
