On 21 January 2008, Chhattisgarh Chief
Minister Mr.Raman Singh laid the foundation stone for the first phase of the
Chhattisgarh's new capital project - Naya Raipur.
Naya Raipur will replace Raipur as the
administrative capital of Chhattisgarh, which came into existence in November

Highways 6 and 43 and will be connected to the present capital city by an
expressway.
The foundation stone was laid at Rakhi
village for a five-storied centrally air-conditioned capital complex that will
house state secretariat building. The complex will be constructed within 24
months by Hyderabad-based IVRCL Infrastructures & Projects. It will spread out
on 670,000 sq.ft land and will cost around Rs.1.8 billion ($45 million).
The construction work of 67 km
four-lane road project has also begun in the Naya Raipur area. This road
contract worth Rs.300 crore ($76 million), was awarded to B. Seenaiah and Co
(Projects).
