Construction work on Gap-2 of the Polavaram Irrigation Project gained momentum on 09 December, 2025 with the formal launch of stone-filling operations.
Water Resources Department officials, along with representatives from Megha Engineering and Infrastructures (MEIL), performed traditional puja rituals at the site before beginning the work. Stone-filling had already started in the downstream segment after the ground was strengthened and stabilised, and the ceremony marked the official start of similar work in the upstream segment.
Prem Chand, along with MEIL General Manager A Gangadhar, confirmed that the project is progressing as per the government's set targets and in a planned, systematic manner to ensure timely completion, and that soil-filling was underway on both sides of the diaphragm wall. Construction in Gap-1 is also continuing as per the approved schedule.
