Sharad Pawar, the BCCI President, on 1 April 2012, inaugurated the Subrata Roy Sahara international stadium in Pune, Maharashtra.
The cricket stadium located at Gahunje has been developed with an investment of Rs 260 crore by Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA). The stadium has been built and owned by MCA with a capacity of 45,000. It has been designed by Sir Michael Hopkins, UK. The stadium and the seating arrangements have been designed in such a way that an unobstructed view is assured from every location, making it the best match viewing experience, enhanced by four big LED screens strategically placed to watch replays. The stadium is likely to host Twenty20 Indian Premier League 2012 (IPL 2012) in Pune.
