Suryalanka Beach in Bapatla district of Andhra Pradesh is set for a major makeover as the state government will initiate the tender process for a Rs 98-crore redevelopment project under the Central government's Swadesh Darshan 2.0 scheme. The initiative aims to elevate the beach to international Blue Flag standards, ensuring exceptional cleanliness, safety, and environmental sustainability.
As part of the state’s Swarnandhra 2047 vision, the project envisions transforming over 20 acres of government land into a comprehensive tourism hub. Planned features include eco-friendly budget resorts, modern changing rooms, landscaped entry zones, food courts, enhanced sanitation, and dedicated children's play areas. The Andhra Pradesh Urban Finance and Infrastructure Development Corporation (APUFIDC) will manage the project’s phased execution.
The upgraded beach will anchor a coastal tourism circuit connecting Suryalanka with eco-tourism destinations like the Poguru mangrove forest, enhancing tourism and local livelihoods. Public-private partnership (PPP) models are expected to draw private investment and generate employment. Union Tourism and Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat has approved the Rs 98-crore proposal, which also includes infrastructure for solid waste management, renewable energy systems, and environmental awareness. The tendering process is expected to commence by end of June, according to District Tourism Officer Nagireddy.
