Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO), has proposed to set up a separate corridor of 400 kV transmission line comprising three 400 kV substations to evacuate 3,000 MW solar power.
The three substations will come up in Thoothukudi, Sivagangai/Ramanathapuram and Pudukottai and will be connected to Nagapatinam 765 kV substations.
The state solar energy policy envisages addition of 3,000 MW solar power by 2015. The separate corridor has been proposed as the existing transmission facility is inadequate to meet the proposed capacity addition of solar power as envisaged in the policy.
With respect to this, the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation has selected firms to set up solar plants to the tune of 698 MW through the bidding route, and has also received applications from companies for establishing about 700 MW capacity solar plants through Renewable Energy Certificate mechanism.
