Chief Minister MK Stalin inaugurated highway projects worth Rs 1,141.23 crore in Chengalpet and Tiruvannamalai districts on 20 February, 2025. The projects included the widened Cheyyur-Panaiyur Link Road and the 109 km-long Cheyyur-Vandavasi-Polur Road.
The Cheyyur-Panaiyur Link Road, developed under the Chennai-Kanyakumari Industrial Corridor scheme with Asian Development Bank support, saw road widening, pipeline realignment, and safety upgrades such as streetlights and surveillance cameras.
The Cheyyur-Vandavasi-Polur Road project featured three bypass roads at Maruthadu, Vandavasi, and Sethupattu to ease congestion. It includes five high-level bridges, 14 minor bridges, and 225 culverts, enhancing connectivity between the East Coast Road, Chennai-Trichy National Highway, and Villupuram-Mangaluru National Highway.
These upgrades are expected to reduce travel time, boost trade, and improve access to urban hospitals and educational institutions, benefiting 67 villages.
