Work on the cycling track along Tansa pipeline will start in March or April 2018. The project will cost around Rs 360 crore, and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) plans to spend Rs 100 crore in 2018-19.
The project is being executed by the BMC’s Hydraulic Engineering Department and will be built in three sections of around 10 km each-- Mulund to Andheri (east), Bhandup to Bandra (east), and Kurla to Mahim.
Mulund-Andheri (east) stretch will start first, since most encroachments have been removed. The remaining sections will take some more time. Bids for the project have been invited and the BMC is in the process of selecting a contractor.
The BMC has already started work on three pilot projects in Mulund, Powai and Sahar. The Sahar project will only be a recreation space with a walking track, while the other two will have both.
