Tata Advanced Systems (TASL) is set to establish India’s first private-sector helicopter final assembly line (FAL) in Vemagal, Karnataka, for Airbus H125 helicopters.
This initiative marks a significant step towards producing ‘Made in India’ H125 helicopters, targeting the civil and para-public markets while fulfilling the Indian Armed Forces’ need for a light multi-role helicopter, particularly suited for operations in the Himalayan region. The facility will also develop a military version, the H125M, incorporating high levels of indigenous components and technology. Production is expected to begin with the first delivery slated for early 2027.
Additionally, helicopters from this Karnataka plant will be available for export across South Asia, unlocking growth potential in the regional rotorcraft segment. This move enhances India’s aerospace manufacturing capabilities and supports strategic defense needs with increased self-reliance and advanced technology integration.
