Tata Electronics is set to double its iPhone enclosure production capacity at its Hosur facility in Tamil Nadu, marking a major expansion aligned with Apple’s evolving manufacturing strategy. This signals the start of Phase II development at the site.
The expansion is expected to be completed ahead of Apple’s annual product launches in September. The Hosur plant had previously achieved a 50,000-unit capacity, but operations were temporarily stalled by a fire in September last year. The move is part of a larger shift by Apple to diversify production away from China, prompted by geopolitical tensions and tariff risks.
Tata’s footprint in Apple’s ecosystem is expanding rapidly. In early 2025, the company acquired a 60 percent controlling stake in Pegatron Technology India (PTI), following its March 2024 takeover of Wistron’s India operations in Karnataka. Other Apple vendors are also scaling operations in India. Foxconn, the tech giant’s largest contract manufacturer, is building a new plant in Bengaluru and has launched a facility in Hyderabad focused on AirPods. Collectively, these developments mark a strategic pivot by Apple to deepen its manufacturing presence in India and de-risk its global supply chain.
