Tata Motors’ electric vehicle (EV) arm, Tata Passenger Electric Mobility (TPEM), has entered into a licensing agreement with Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) for the development of the Avinya range of cars. This will allow TPEM to source electrified architecture from JLR.
TPEM and JLR are wholly-owned subsidiaries of the auto major, which have entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU). The pact envisages TPEM licensing JLR's electrified modular architecture (EMA) platform for a royalty fee for the Avinya series.
TPEM and JLR will also sign an engineering services agreement (ESA) to support the former's content requirements for the first vehicle development. Jaguar's EMA platform will strengthen the automaker's next generation of electric mid-sized SUVs for international markets, which is expected to be launched from 2025 onwards.
Avinya concept was first showcased in 2022 and is being built on an architecture equipped with the latest advances in new-age technology, software and artificial intelligence.
