Telangana government has attracted a fresh investment of Rs 1,500 crore in the compressed biogas (CBG) sector, with South Africa’s Biovest Holdings forming a strategic alliance with Hyderabad-based Spantech Engineers (India) and EcoMax Energy (India). This collaboration aims to establish 20 CBG plants across various districts in Telangana in the initial phase.
The partnership includes a bilateral technology transfer agreement under which Spantech will provide its BioGenie biogas purification systems to Biovest. In return, Biovest will licence its advanced modular anaerobic digestion technology, Herba, to be locally manufactured by Spantech in Hyderabad. This technology is known for its capability to deliver three times the standard biomethane yields.
EcoMax Energy will serve as the exclusive deployment partner for this technology in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, spearheading the initiative to bring in investment and generate employment opportunities across the state. As part of the long-term plan, EcoMax intends to set up a CBG plant in each district using the Herba technology. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) formalising this partnership between EcoMax and Spantech was signed in the presence of Telangana state Ministers and officials.
EcoMax Energy CEO and Managing Director M Rithvik Rao emphasised the company’s commitment to building a sustainable future: “We are actively raising capital from European green funds and development banks to finance this,” he said, adding, “The vision is to transform Telangana into a green energy powerhouse with self-reliance in compressed natural gas consumption while simultaneously creating thousands of green jobs and supporting agricultural communities.
