Work on the crucial Ghodbunder Highway in Thane, expected to conclude by January 2026, will provide much-needed relief to commuters battling traffic congestion and ongoing diversions.
The announcement was made by Cabinet Minister Pratap Sarnaik following a review meeting at the Thane Municipal Corporation headquarters. The highway, which connects Mumbai's eastern and western suburbs, has been under heavy construction for months. The ongoing work includes merging service lanes with the main carriageway, road concretisation, and major repairs. Several lanes remain closed, creating significant delays for commuters traveling towards Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Gujarat, and North Maharashtra.
Minister Sarnaik emphasised the completion of all remaining projects, such as resurfacing the Gaimukh Ghat section, road expansions, and utility relocations, aiming to improve traffic flow and safety by 2026. Meanwhile, other civic projects like beautification and infrastructure development are also progressing across Thane.
