On December 22, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha emphasised the need for faster implementation of the Kaladan Multimodal Transit Transport Project to improve connectivity between the North Eastern region, the rest of India, and neighbouring countries.
His comments came during the third meeting of the High-Level Task Force for Infrastructure and Connectivity Development in the North Eastern States, chaired by Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia. Dr. Saha highlighted the importance of developing the North East as a gateway to the Bay of Bengal and ASEAN countries through integrated logistics hubs, freight rail networks, and improved energy and digital infrastructure. He stressed the need for coordinated efforts between the states to address challenges in road, rail, air connectivity, power, gas, and digital infrastructure.
The Chief Minister also outlined strategies for regional development, focusing on power, tourism, border trade, and infrastructure. He expressed hope that strengthened cooperation between the Centre and states would boost connectivity and regional growth.
