Two new flyovers are being constructed in Delhi, which are to be completed by
June 2010, to facilitate smooth flow of traffic ahead of the Commonwealth Games.
The flyovers will help decongest traffic on the busy stretch between Pankha
Road and Dabri Mor and on Rani Jhansi Road between Filmistan and St. Stephen’s
Hospital.
Around 40 per cent construction work on the Rani Jhansi Road stretch covering
a distance of 1.62 km from Filmistan to St. Stephen’s Hospital has been
completed, while 50 per cent of the work on the Pankha Road-Dabri intersection
has been done so far.
Apart from the four lanes on the flyovers, there would also be separate cycle
tracks and subways.
The 1,619 metre long Filmistan flyover to be built at a cost of Rs 177 crore
will help ease traffic movement around Pul Bangash and Azad Market. The Pankha
Road flyover which will benefit residents of Janakpuri, Palam, Dwarka and Uttam
Nagar, is being constructed by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi at a total
cost of Rs 109 crore.
