The Uttar Pradesh government, under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, plans to launch a Water Metro system on the Gomti River in Lucknow.
A recent meeting with Kochi Metro Director Sanjay Kumar and Transport Minister Dayashankar Singh reviewed the technical feasibility of the project, which will feature modern navigation and passenger systems. Preparatory work for the project is expected to begin soon, with similar projects under consideration for other rivers in the state, including parts of the Ganga, Yamuna, Surha Tal, and Ramgarh Tal. Feasibility reports for three key locations have already been completed.
Once operational, the Water Metro will enhance urban transport, support tourism, create employment, and stimulate economic activity along riverfront areas. However, before moving forward, technical and environmental clearances are needed, including studies on navigational aids, traffic management, environmental safeguards, and infrastructure. Once these assessments are finalized, a detailed project report (DPR) will be prepared, outlining costs and implementation timelines.
