In line with Telangana’s vision to become India’s leading AI data centre hub by 2047, the state secured another major data centre investment at the WEF 2026.
UPC Volt, a joint venture (JV) between Netherlands-based UPC Renewables Group and VOLT Data Centers has been formed to establish high-performance, energy-efficient AI data centers in Bharat Future City. This facility, supported by a 100 MW renewable energy project, will operate with carbon-free energy. The proposed Rs 5,000 crore investment, spread over five years, is expected to create over 3,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities. An MOU was signed to formalise the deal, which aligns with Telangana’s green open access framework for renewable energy sourcing.
Telangana’s Minister for IT and Industries, D Sridhar Babu, expressed pride in securing this investment, noting it would strengthen the state's digital infrastructure and contribute to its goal of becoming a global AI data center hub. The initiative is part of Telangana’s broader economic development strategy.
