The Udupi Power Corporation (UPCL), a subsidiary of Adani Power, has signed a concession agreement with the New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) for additional 4.99 ha of land.
The land is located in the NMPT premises will be used for UPCL’s expansion project. UPCL operates two 600 MW thermal power plants at Yellur village in Udupi district in Karnataka.
UPCL had signed a 30 year concession agreement in May 2008 with NMPT for 15 ha for setting up a bulk coal terminal. This involved construction and operation of a captive jetty with associated facilities required for handling bulk quantities of coal.
The expansion project is an addendum to the existing concession agreement, and is for the additional 4.99 ha parcel. The additional land is required to handle additional cargo for the UPCL’s proposed project expansion.
