Udupi Power Corporation (UPCL), a subsidiary of Lanco Infratech plans to
expand capacity at its coal based power plant.
UPCL intends to set up two more units of 660 MW each at an estimated
investment of Rs 6,930 crore at Nandikur in Udupi district in coastal Karnataka.
The company recently signed an MoU with the state government for the project.
The state government has agreed to provide 600 acre adjacent to the existing
power plant.
Currently, UPCL is in the process of commissioning its
second unit of 600 MW, which is to be synchronised by end-October 2010. The
Unit I 600 MW has already started generating power from June 2010.
