Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah launched the world’s first liquid Nano DAP, a novel nano fertiliser containing nitrogen and phosphorus on 26 April, 2023 in New Delhi. Its usage is expected to propel the country towards sustainable farming while bringing down input costs.
The manufacturing units of Nano DAP have been established in Kalol, Gujarat and Paradeep, Odisha by Indian Farmers Fertilizer Cooperative (IFFCO) which holds the patents of both the Nano variant of liquid fertilisers. Nano DAP is the second such variant of fertiliser. Nano Urea was launched in February, 2021.
One bottle of 500 ml of Nano DAP can replace a 50 kg bag of traditional DAP (di-ammonium phosphate). Nano DAP fertiliser for commercial sale is priced at Rs 600 per 500 ml bottle, which is less than half of the current price of conventional DAP.
The Home Minister said that the use of liquid DAP will help to increase both the quality and quantity of production, and aid soil conservation. He further stated that the application of nano variants will help reduce usage of granular urea by about 14 percent, and that of DAP initially by six percent and subsequently by 20 percent. It will thus, reduce India’s fertiliser import dependence.
