Japan-based company, Fast Retailing under the brand name Uniqlo will set up its manufacturing presence in India through 20 production partners. The company will focus on catering to the domestic market in the country.
The clothing retailer already has a cluster of production partners in India and its current focus is to produce only for export purposes. The company seeks to expand this network through a significant investment.
In September 2019, the Japanese brand established its first store in India and intends to enter Mumbai and Bangalore markets. The company already has a presence in Lucknow and Chandigarh after Delhi. It outsources the production of its products to factories outside Japan and further aims to expand its partner factory network in countries like Vietnam, Bangladesh, Indonesia, and India.
Further, the company's existing production partners in India includes Shahi Exports, Brandix Lanka, Tangerine Design, Maral Overseas, Shingora Textiles, Silver Spark Apparel, SM Lulla Industries Worldwide and Penguin Apparels.
Till date, Uniqlo has 227 factories in China, 54 in Vietnam, 33 in Bangladesh, 13 in Indonesia, and 16 in India and Japan.
