NPCIL's 700 MW pressurised heavy water reactor at Kakrapar Atomic Power
Project (KAPP) in Surat district of Gujarat is expected to be commissioned in
2015.
Around 70 per cent of excavation of the site of KAPP Unit I has been
completed and the first 'pour of concrete' (for laying the foundation) is likely to take
place in June 2010.
Work on Unit II of 700 MW in KAPP will begin after six months. The cost of
two plants is Rs 11,500 crore. In December 2009, NPCIL awarded the reactor
building contract, of both units to L&T valued at Rs 844 crore.
