The Uttarakhand government has launched a major Rs 3,300 crore redevelopment project aimed at transforming 200 sq. km in Champawat district.
The project’s first phase, costing Rs 185 crore, focuses on redeveloping Sharda Ghat, constructing a heliport at Banbasa, and developing an international border market. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami emphasised the holistic growth of the area, which will enhance religious, cultural, tourism, and environmental aspects. The project includes initiatives like the restoration of Mata Rankochi Temple, a mountain bike trail, and the creation of a master plan for the Sharada riverfront.
Key goals include boosting tourism, improving the environment, and fostering economic growth. With an emphasis on sustainability, the Sharda Corridor aims to blend religion, nature, and livelihood, making it a potential hub for tourism and destination weddings. The first phase also involves biodiversity conservation and disaster resilience projects.
