The Central government has approved a Rs 100 crore incentive for Uttarakhand under the Special Assistance Scheme for the 2025–26 financial year, recognising the state's achievements in mining sector reforms.
The decision follows the state’s fulfillment of six out of seven key criteria, including regulatory efficiency, transparency, and monitoring systems. Uttarakhand, which ranked highest among other states assessed, had already received Rs 100 crore in October 2025 for its performance in the Sustainable Mining Reforms Index (SMRI).
The Rs 200 crore total incentive will help improve technology-driven monitoring, curb illegal mining, and streamline mining operations through digitisation and e-auctions. Officials emphasise the importance of balancing mining with environmental safeguards in Uttarakhand’s ecologically sensitive regions. The allocation will support ongoing reforms to improve revenue management, regulatory oversight, and accountability in the mining sector.
