Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways and Minister of AYUSH, Sarbananda Sonowal, opened various projects of the Mormugao Port Authority and also launched projects of New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA).
He inaugurated the modernisation of Mallya Gate, construction of solid waste management facilities and the design and development of the bilingual website of NMPA.
The minister also laid the foundation for the construction of pavement quality concrete (PQC) from the main gate to KIOCL Junction and the construction of the truck terminal near the Custom House adjacent to NH-66.
The port has three entry and exit gates for evacuation and movement of the cargo. To de-congest the increasing vehicle movement in harbour area, modernisation of the main gate from two lanes to four lanes was taken up and completed with a project cost of Rs 3.30 crore.
The bilingual website is developed by Centre for Development of Imaging Technology at a cost of Rs 12.25 lakh.
The construction of PQC Road from main gate to KIOCL Junction is estimated to cost Rs 3.75 crore. The work is scheduled to be completed in February 2023.
