Construction work of Outer Ring Road (ORR) Phase-II, which stretches from Nemilichery to Minjur in Chennai, has commenced.
The Chennai Outer Ring Road project will link the peripheral areas of the city from Vandalur in the south, about 25 km from Chennai on NH-45, to Minjur to the North of Chennai.
Phase-II of the project is estimated to cost around Rs 1,400 crore and is expected to be completed by September 2016. Land acquisition for the 30 km long Phase-II carriageway has been completed.
The total length of the ORR is 60 km and the project has been undertaken by Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority.
The ORR is being implemented in two phases on DBFOT basis. Phase-I of the project, which is 29.5 km long, links Vandalur to Nazarathpet on NH-4 to Nemilichery on NH-205.
At present, Phase-I of the project is nearing completion and work on the interchanges (grade separators) are on.
