Work will commence soon on the strategic Zojila tunnel for all-year connectivity between Kashmir and Ladakh regions.
The tunnel project holds strategic significance as Zojila Pass is situated at an altitude of 11,578 ft on the Srinagar-Kargil-Leh National Highway and remains closed during winters due to heavy snowfall, cutting off Ladakh region from Kashmir.
The project will see an investment of around Rs 7,500-Rs 8,000 crore.
Apart from this a new express highway is also being built to connect Delhi with Amritsar and Katra which will cut travel time between Delhi and Amritsar to four hours at an average speed of 110-120 km per hour.
