The World Bank has approved a USD 188.28 million financing to bolster economic growth in Maharashtra, particularly in the underdeveloped districts.
The initiative, known as the Maharashtra Strengthening Institutional Capabilities for Enabling Growth Operation, aims to enhance district-level planning and growth strategies. It focuses on equipping districts with essential data, funding, and expertise to optimise public spending and stimulate job creation.
Key components include improving e-government services to foster private sector participation, with a special emphasis on tourism. The program will enhance institutional capabilities for evidence-based planning, policymaking, and efficient public service delivery. It also aims to improve coordination between the public and private sectors, ensuring more inclusive and sustainable growth.
A significant aspect of the initiative is the establishment of the Maha Databank, a robust data governance framework designed to analyze and address development gaps, including gender disparities. The program underscores skill-based training across multiple sectors to expand employment opportunities.
