Germany’s ZF Group has inaugurated a new electric parking brake (EPB) line at its manufacturing plant in Oragadam, near Chennai.

The new line, dedicated to producing EPBs for passenger vehicles, will have an annual peak capacity of 8,00,000 units. Currently operating with a single shift, the company plans to expand to three shifts soon, employing seven workers to assemble each unit from start to finish. Akash Passey, President of ZF Region India, shared that around 40 percent of EPB components are sourced locally, with plans to increase this to 80-90 percent within the next two years. The new line is part of ZF's USD 200-250 million investment in India.

Akash Passey noted that India’s evolving regulatory framework is positioning the country closer to developed auto markets, driving growth in the passenger vehicle segment. As he explained, “Original Equipment Manufacturers are heavily investing into new solutions around safety, efficiency and so on, making us a logical contact point to build them for our customers.”
