The foundation for laying a medium-density polyethylene (MDPE) pipeline under Bharat Petroleum Corporation’s (BPCL) city gas distribution (CGD) project has been inaugurated in Motihari, Bihar by MP and former Union Minister Radha Mohan Singh.

The Rs 2,000 crore project aims to provide piped natural gas (PNG) to approx. 50,000 households in the region within a year, delivering clean, uninterrupted, and affordable fuel directly to homes,  while reducing reliance on conventional fuels such as LPG.

The Minister noted that India’s gas pipeline network expanded significantly over the past decade—from 15,340 km in 2014 to around 25,000 km currently, with an additional 10,000 km under construction. The Ministry of Petroleum has authorised BPCL to implement the project across East and West Champaran, Gopalganj, Siwan, and Deoria districts.

Meanwhile, a steel pipeline is also being laid from Gorakhpur to Bettiah and Raxaul via Deoria, Siwan, and Gopalganj. The project will benefit households, hotels, restaurants, and small industries alike.
