The Delhi government is planning to construct a 20-km-long elevated road along the Munak Canal from Inderlok to Bawana in northwest Delhi to alleviate traffic congestion on the Outer Ring Road.
The project, estimated at Rs 3,000 crore, will be developed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), with Delhi’s Public Works Department (PWD) managing funding, land clearance, and coordination. A detailed project report (DPR) is underway and expected within three months. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta recently held a meeting with PWD officials, Haryana counterparts, and Union agencies to push the plan forward.
The Delhi government is also seeking a No Objection Certificate from the Haryana government, as the Munak Canal—part of the Western Yamuna Canal system, is currently managed by the Haryana irrigation department. Of its 102 km length, 17 km fall in Delhi. Originally built between 2003 and 2012, the canal carries over 1,000 cusecs of water daily to Delhi. The proposed corridor will link Urban Extension Road 2 (UER 2) with Delhi’s road network, enhancing connectivity in the northern and western zones.
