The foundation stone for Rs 81-crore water supply project was laid on July 27 at the old water treatment plant site along Longai Road in Assam, aiming to provide round-the-clock safe drinking water to 27 Municipal wards.
The initiative marks a significant step in urban infrastructure development under the Jal Jeevan Mission. Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah led the ceremony, joined by Barak Valley ministers Krishnendu Paul and Kaushik Rai, former Rajya Sabha MP Mission Ranjan Das, the District Commissioner, and other officials.
Minister Mallabaruah informed that the water supply project is scheduled for completion within three years, ensuring uninterrupted clean water access for a large urban population. He also mentioned that out of 29,000 planned Jal Jeevan Mission projects statewide, 14,000 have been completed, while pending works face delays due to fund disbursement issues.
