The Greater Noida authority has decided to develop Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex into a 'centre of excellence' in the next two months. This will ensure that the sports facilities, including Olympic-size swimming pool, football ground, cricket ground are available to sports enthusiasts.
Spread over 39 acres, the sport complex was constructed in 2015 at a cost of Rs 130 crore. The authority's top official has directed the sports department to take steps to upgrade the complex, so that it can be utilised not only by local talent but also host international-level sports events. It has issued expressions of interest (EOIs) inviting the proposals from expert companies, which can run each sports wing properly.
The upgradation work as the complex is expected to commence in July-end or August. In July, the authority may finalise the company which will run this facility.
The authority wants to host T-20 cricket tournaments, for which it will raise the seating arrangements from 8,000 to 20,000 at the cricket stadium.
