Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw informed the Lok Sabha that the Gujarat section of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail (MAHSR) corridor, spanning from Vapi to Sabarmati, is targeted for completion by December 2027, while the full corridor—including the Maharashtra section, is expected to be completed by December 2029.

The 508 km MAHSR project, being executed with Japan's technical and financial assistance, will traverse Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Dadra & Nagar Haveli, with 12 stations planned. The estimated project cost is approx.Rs 1,08,000 crore, with 81 percent (Rs 88,000 crore) funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the remaining 19 percent (Rs 20,000 crore) contributed equally by the Ministry of Railways and the governments of Maharashtra and Gujarat. As of June 30, Rs 78,839 crore has been spent.

All of the required land (1,389.5 hectares) has been acquired, and all civil contracts awarded. Construction milestones include 392 km of pier work, 329 km of girder casting, and 308 km of girder launching. Work has begun on the 21 km undersea tunnel.
