At the 11th India Energy Storage Week (IESW) 2025 in New Delhi, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal announced that India has achieved a 4,000% increase in installed solar capacity, taking the nation’s renewable energy base to 227 GW.

The Minister further stated, “India is likely the first G20 nation to have fulfilled its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement.” Highlighting sustainability models like Palli village in Jammu and Kashmir, the country’s first carbon-neutral panchayat, and the IESW venue Yashobhoomi, he underscored India’s real-time progress in green infrastructure, including rooftop solar, wastewater recycling, and energy-efficient design.

The Minister also announced a Rs one lakh crore innovation fund to accelerate next-generation battery technologies, emphasising the need to build resilient energy supply chains for true Atmanirbharta (self-reliance).

India’s manufacturing capabilities have surged, with solar PV module capacity growing 38-fold and photovoltaic cell capacity 21-fold in a decade. He spotlighted key schemes such as PM Surya Ghar Yojana, aimed at equipping one crore households with rooftop solar, and the PM Kusum Yojana to expand solar pumps in agriculture. He also highlighted the PLI scheme for Advanced Chemistry Cell (ACC) production.
