The Karnataka government has initiated a plan to develop a state-of-the-art Film City on 160 acres in Himmavu village near Mysuru. The project will be executed through a public-private partnership (PPP) model, with an expression of interest (EoI) to be floated once the designated land is fenced.

Noted filmmaker Rajendra Singh Babu urged CM Siddaramaiah to position Mysuru as the “cinema capital of India,” citing its film-friendly infrastructure, including 250 scenic locations, 16 palaces, rivers, and sanctuaries within a 15 km radius. Planned features include a railway track, runway, palace set, golf course, and more. Improved connectivity through road, rail, and air further strengthens Mysuru's potential as a cinematic and tourism hotspot. Mysuru, with its low traffic congestion, over 250 scenic spots within a 15 km radius, 16 palaces, rivers, reservoirs, and wildlife sanctuaries, is poised to become one of the most sought-after film destinations in the country.

According to officials, a detailed blueprint for the proposed film city will be created, and the project will be developed in phases. The film city is expected to feature key infrastructure such as a railway track, runway, golf course, ponds, lakes, a palace set, and other essential elements required for film production. Numerous picturesque locations nearby, such as Srirangapatna, Melukote, KRS Dam, Mysuru Zoo, Chamundi Hills, and the banks of the Kapila and Cauvery rivers, offer ideal backdrops for a wide range of film shoots.
