In a major boost to Mumbai’s metro infrastructure, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has acquired approx.430 acres of land in Mogarpada, Thane, to establish the city’s largest integrated Metro depot. This facility will support operations and maintenance for Metro lines 4, 4A, 10, and 11, which span nearly 56 km from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus to Mira Road.
“MMRDA’s timely acquisition of the Mogarpada land parcel is a landmark development for Mumbai’s metro network,” said Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. A farmer-centric rehabilitation plan has been adopted, offering 22.5 percent of original land area as developed plots to leaseholder farmers and 12.5 percent to encroachers. MMRDA aims to deliver the developed plots within 36 months.
Deputy Chief Minister and MMRDA Chairman Eknath Shinde noted, “With transparent land acquisition, farmer-centric rehabilitation and future-ready engineering, we are delivering infrastructure that transforms lives.” The project underwent extensive public consultations earlier this year, leading to 198 offer letters. The depot’s integrated layout, recommended by DMRC, will ensure operational efficiency. Once completed, the metro lines are expected to reduce travel time by half and serve 1.2 million daily passengers, significantly improving urban mobility across eastern suburbs and Thane.
