The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has initiated planning for a 20-km-long elevated corridor aimed at decongesting the heavily trafficked Delhi-Gurugram (NH-48) highway and surrounding arterial roads.
The corridor will connect AIIMS/INA to Mahipalpur Bypass and the Gurugram-Faridabad Road, running parallel to NH-48. NHAI has invited bids from firms to prepare the detailed project report (DPR), expected to be completed by October 15. The estimated cost of the project stands at around Rs 5,000 crore, subject to final DPR evaluation.
Officials state that the corridor will pass through key areas including Brig Hoshiyar Singh Marg, Africa Avenue, Nelson Mandela Marg, Vasant Vihar, and Arjangarh before ending at the Gurugram-Faridabad Road. Designed to be signal-free, the corridor will provide off-ramp exits at strategic points including IFFCO Chowk, IGI Airport, and Mahipalpur, enabling smoother traffic flow towards Ghaziabad, Noida, and Greater Noida. This project is expected to significantly reduce congestion on MG Road, Ring Roads, and NH-48.
