The Chennai Metro Rail’s Phase-II project is witnessing rapid progress, with nearly 70 percent of the station construction between Poonamallee and Porur completed.
Spanning 118.9 km, the project comprises three corridors- Madhavaram to SIPCOT (Corridor 3), Light House to Poonamallee (Corridor 4), and Madhavaram to Sholinganallur (Corridor 5), which will be launched in stages. Initially, the Poonamallee to Porur stretch in Corridor 4, covering a distance of nine km, is scheduled to open in December. As per CMRL, 90 percent of the viaduct work and nearly 70 percent of the station work are complete.
Despite challenges at specific stations like Karayanchavadi and Kumananchavadi, work is being expedited for the remaining tasks. Key changes in Phase II include downsized station length from 230 mtrs. to 140 mtrs. The Phase-I stations were built with four entry/exit points, while stations in Phase-II will have two.
