Odisha seeks to lead in aviation industry with MRO facilities In a significant move to position the state as a leader in India's aviation industry, the state government has commenced consultations to develop world-class maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facilities.

A high-level stakeholder consultation organised by the Commerce and Transport Department took place on 08 January, 2025, gathering key industry players and government officials to discuss the future of Odisha’s aviation ecosystem.  The discussions revolved around formulating an investor-friendly policy framework, aiming to establish Odisha as a preferred destination for MRO operators, OEMs, and airlines in the eastern region under the Industrial Policy Resolution (IPR) 2022.

Commerce and Transport Department Principal Secretary Usha Padhee highlighted the collaborative efforts involving prominent players such as GMR Group, Star Air, Safran, Max Aerospace, Pritnee Aerospace, and the MRO Association of India.

Odisha is leveraging its strategic potential with airports in Jharsuguda, Bhubaneswar, and Puri to develop a global aviation hub. Through the IPR 2022, the state plans to provide financial incentives, including a 30 percent capital subsidy for MRO investment, while fostering skill development programs to create a skilled workforce for the aviation sector. Additionally, Odisha’s collaboration with the Government of Singapore aims to adopt global best practices in aviation and MRO operations.
