Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone and inaugurated multiple development projects worth over Rs 5,400 crore in Durgapur, West Bengal on 18 July, 2025.

The projects span oil and gas, power, road, and rail sectors, and are expected to boost operational efficiency, promote cleaner energy generation, and strengthen the plants' competitiveness on a global scale.. Key projects include the Bharat Petroleum city gas distribution (CGD) project in Bankura and Purulia worth Rs 1,950 crore, the Durgapur to Kolkata section of the Durgapur-Haldia Natural Gas Pipeline worth Rs 1,190 crore, and flue gas desulphurization systems at thermal power stations worth Rs 1,457 crore.  

The PM also inaugurated the doubling of the Purulia–Kotshila rail line, and two road over bridges under Setu Bharatam, improving connectivity for industries in Jamshedpur, Bokaro, Dhanbad, Ranchi, and Kolkata by cutting travel time and optimizing logistics operations.
