The Railway Ministry has sanctioned the final location survey (FLS) for a proposed Outer Ring Rail (ORR) to run parallel with Telangana’s Regional Ring Road (RRR). Of the 100-mtrs.-wide RRR corridor, 70 mtrs. will be allocated to the expressway and 30 mtrs. to the railway track.

A senior South Central Railway (SCR) official said the detailed project proposal will soon be submitted to th state government. The recent visit of Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has accelerated the mega-infrastructure plan. According to SCR, the combined RRR-Ring Rail network will enhance multimodal connectivity, support suburban services, expand long-distance train operations, and decongest freight routes. Hyderabad’s suburbs now extend up to 90 km, straining existing rail lines.

The new freight corridor will bypass the congested Hyderabad–Secunderabad–Kacheguda region. The Outer Ring Rail will span 392 km, covering Vikarabad, Medak, Siddipet, Kamareddy, Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri, Nalgonda, and Rangareddy districts. The project cost is estimated at Rs 12,408 crore, while the RRR will cost Rs 34,367.62 crore. Rail-over-rail intersections are planned at strategic points to ensure seamless connectivity across Telangana’s expanding suburban and industrial zones.
