The proposed flyover at Palarivattom Bypass Junction, part of the Edappally-Aroor elevated highway project, will now pass above the Kochi Metro viaduct, according to the revised detailed project report (DPR) submitted by Bhopal-based Highway Engineering Consultants to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
“As per the revised DPR, the flyover is now slated to come up above the metro viaduct of the Pink Line,” said a senior NHAI official. The flyover is expected to rise 32 mtrs.above the existing flyover and the ongoing metro construction in the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium–Infopark corridor. Initially submitted without accounting for the Kochi Metro viaduct, the DPR was revised after nearly five months of delay. The original estimated cost was Rs 3,600 crore, with a potential increase expected pending NHAI’s final review.
The project is designed to fit within the existing Right of Way (ROW), minimising land acquisition except for small sections at the entry and exit points. The Pink Line viaduct, the highest in Kochi Metro’s Phase 2, will include a 60 mtrs. steel span at Palarivattom. The flyover will connect Edappally to Aroor as an extension of the Aroor–Thuravoor elevated corridor.
